The Kindness That Changed Their Lives

Quite a long time ago, after the world was made,

The Inuit lived in darkness, and that’s how it stayed.

Until they heard a foreign notion that changed their daily routine.

From their good friend Crow, who had seen the unseen.

He had seen daylight, and the Inuit disbelieved.

Yet, they wanted light to hunt, to eat, to see!

They begged Crow to get it till he took flight.

Then Crow embarked into the endless night.

His loyalty kept him going even though it was snowing

Soon, the daylight world sent his breath flying.

The glowing sphere of daylight was soon visible

Crow snatched at the ball and became invisible.

The ball fell and escaped its encasement

So great was the Inuit’s amazement!

And now they acknowledge the kindness of Crow

For the light that changed their lives.

The Crow Dropped The Ball of Daylight and It Shattered And Lit Up The Land

The Little Soldiers of the Night

The little soldiers of the night

Were the soldiers’ greatest fear.

To them the tanks and mortars

Were nothing but a thing to sneer.

The little soldiers of the night

Well, they were mighty small!

But their trick was a fierce trick

The fiercest of them all!

Why, you say, what’s that trick

That I am speaking of?

It was an itchy titchy bite

So fierce, that it can’t be loved.

So, have you solved my riddle?

Or should I be precise?

Well, the answer to the riddle is

The horrible, hateful LICE!

The soldiers were forced to wear the same clothes

Over and over again.

And when two lice crept into the clothes

A family grew! And bit the bodies of the poor men.

My Marvelous Mind

My mind is full of a zillion things

Like dogs and cats and diamond rings

And also parrots and cars and spring

And flowers and the Earth and kings.

My mind is a bit like a sharpener

Because a thought comes in and stirs

And mixes the rest of the thoughts together

With it and makes old thoughts even better.

Sometimes I wonder

Am I a good actor?

And what is an acre?

Could I be a baker? *

My mind is full of a zillion things

Like dogs and cats and diamond rings

And also parrots and cars and spring

And flowers and the Earth and kings.

* This is a question, and the answer is (drum roll, please): Yes! Definitely!

My Own Poems

All these poems are original except for *

Limerick:  A Limerick is a humorous poem which contains five lines. The first, second, and fifth lines must rhyme and the third and fourth lines must rhyme.

There was an old man who went to town

To buy a pair of shoes that were brown.

His wife was very mad

And called him bad

And told him she wanted a pink gown.

Everyone stared with shock and awe

At my silly donkey Hee-Haw.

He shared his carrots

With a lot of parrots

And that’s what everyone saw!

Haiku:  A Haiku is a traditional Japanese poem. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme. Because Haikus are short, they tell about a familiar thing.

Summer

Many hot days come

With a warm breeze and ice cream.

And watermelon

Boredom

Boredom is a thing

The opposite of freedom

Related to yawn

Acrostic poems: An acrostic is a form of writing. In an acrostic, the first letter of a word starts a line, and it spells out a word or a message. It can be used to remember things. Like:

Toys Talk

If toys could talk,

What would they say?

May be sing a song,

Or could say “lets play”.

If toys could walk,

What would they do?

May be dance a dance,

Or walk together two by two.

If toys could eat,

Would they have cookies?

If toys could drink,

Would they say more juice please?

We could play,

All night and day.

We could sing,

And shout hurray.

Let us pause for a bit,

And tell you our point of view.

If toys were alive,

What fun things would we do.

We tell each other stories,

And jokes and riddles too.

We would have parties,

And so much more to do.

Toys are smooth or cuddly,

And are lots of fun.

Even if they are broken and done,

Toys are great for everyone.

Written with the help of my friend Rahmah

My friends at the Zoo.

One day at the zoo,

You see me, I see you.

You hug me, and I hug you.

Who has better friends than you at the zoo?

For the animals at the zoo, pretty things,

Are good friends of mine.

Such friendship, my friendship,

Is truly divine.

The elephant does trumpet all day,

And might make you run away,

But it is a lovely creature,

And has a very big feature.

The lion is scary,

But there is no need to yell,

Admire it when you can.

For it will be your friend, if it will and can.

The snake has a fierce hiss.

And you might think it’s poisonousss.

But not all of them are dangerousssss,

The ones at the zoo are my friendsss.

The monkeys, tigers and giraffes love me,

And I love them back.

The parrots say, ‘I love you!’

And I shout, ‘Me too!

For the animals at the zoo, pretty things,

Are good friends of mine.

Such friendship, my friendship,

Is truly divine.

True Friendship

What does a friend mean to you?

Is it someone to help and care for you?

To me, a friend is a big pleasure.

What you earn you should treasure.

I’ve many good friends and,

Hope that our friendship doesn’t end.

A true friend is more valuable than gold;

A true friend has a heart never cold.

She is more precious than money;

A friend is someone as sweet as honey.

A friend has a heart that is soft;

She and I hope our friendship is never lost.
